If you prefer to manually install Recipes, you can do so by adding a few files and references to the right spots in your theme

Step 1 - Adding Files

There are a few files that need to be added to your theme. You can get each of these files here:

Each file should be added to the correct spot in your theme's assets and snippets folders. Please verify that all of these files exist and have the latest files in them. The links above automatically will update as new versions are released.

Step 2 - Referencing Files

In order for the snippets to work, render tags need to be added in a few places. These will ensure that the individual recipes are loaded when shortcodes from the app are used.

{% render 'recipes-static' %}

The above render tag for general recipes usage needs to be included in the bottom of each of these types of files:

  • Templates/article.liquid
  • Templates/page.liquid

Note your theme may have multiple templates that correspond to pages and articles. The render tag needs to be placed in each of them if you want recipes to appear in them via shortcode. It certainly does not need to be added to every template either. Just the ones you want the recipes to work in.

Additionally, the css and js files need to be referenced directly in the theme.liquid. The code below should be added directly above the closing head tag

{{ 'recipes.scss.css' | asset_url | stylesheet_tag }}
{% render 'recipes-custom-css' %}
Make sure to carefully update this file and any other layout files you use for your theme.

Step 3 - Including Additional Recipe Cards

If you would like to include a recipe card outside a page or article, you can directly include a render tag for the recipes single snippet. Passing the recipe ID as a variable allows this to work anywhere in the theme.
